This dragon was captured as a juvenile by a Roman general under Julius Caesar shortly after 49 B.C. in the middle regions of Gaul, during Caesar's conquests, and given the name Marcidus, or Withering. It's color is black, but the markings are red, as are his eyes. The markings are tatoos given to the dragon after its capture to give it a more fearsome appearance. Many tools were broken during the tatooing process. Since the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Marcidus has hidden himself away, only hunting when needed. Nothing more has since been heard.

Ah, yes. My adoring public. Apparently the tenuous truce of the last gallery format did not transfer as well. SPQR stands for Senatus Populusque Romanus, Latin for the Roman Senate and People. Yes, the language is called Latin. The people and culture called Roman. And we'll see how the voting goes. A shame I did not bother to return sooner. I might have rebuked you all more often.

My my, Makla! An original comment. This wasn't discussed at length before I was harassed for multiple votes, nor even afterwards. To address this issue once more, yes, the sketch is not museum quality (real museum, not modern art museum), but it was the best of th other sketches I had to choose from at the time. As to the writing, I thank you. Few enough have had that courtesy to take note of it.
Chalgrish
[Aug 17, 2005 at 01:07 PM]
Even the writing was sub-par, and you lack any knowledge of draconic anatomy, as the wings are stretched all the way down to the thighs, in order to prevent said dragon's wings from ripping off due to the air resistance
Makla
[Aug 18, 2005 at 07:43 PM]
if this is the best sketch then i gave you WAY too much credit earlier! you absolutely STINK at drawing! and you can cover up your dislike and try to make yourself seem completely incontrol of yourself by trying to talk fancy. it just makes you seem more pathetic really
Eric Daniel
[Aug 19, 2005 at 07:21 AM]
And anatomy of mythical creatures is not up for debate nor interpretation, right? The writing is a brief description, not a novel. If you would like the dragons life story I'd be happy to begin working on a manuscript for publication. If the only point that can be made of the art itself is that it's poor, then I see no further reason to continue that discussion. How, Makla, can you call maintaining a calm demeanor and proper use of language pathetic in the face of those who proclaim themselves to be dragons, griffins and the like. These who hate humanity and all that it has made, yet still using the electricity and plastics employed to create the machines and power them? These who become riled when called out that their fantasies non sequitur, logic failing to bind with plausibility?
Silentiea
[Aug 19, 2005 at 07:29 AM]
Who said anyone hated humanity? The closest thing I've heard is that they don't like giving rides, not that they hate humans.

Eric Daniel
[Aug 19, 2005 at 06:58 PM]
You failed to read the statement. Had I actually gone point by point as to the quality of the sketch, as I have done in previous incarnations of this page, that would have been discussing that which I will no longer discuss. An imagination is apparently something you as well lack, as you display by calling out the only one that actually has a description attached to it. As to the point, brought back to life by Delbin, that many of you who frequent this page claim to have some hatred or grievance against humanity. The point was much belabored in the two previous versions of this page. Finally, in lecturing heathens, I will use the language as I see fit, which is to say in a manner that preserves its highest qualities, as opposed to butchering it for the sake brevity and the popularity purposeful misspellings. Writing as you do, Delbin, only shows that you are a slave to popular culture, incapable of showing the slightest pride in the most powerful language the world has known.
Silentiea
[Aug 19, 2005 at 07:03 PM]
Language in it's highest qualities is not, nor has ever been, in Enlgish, and if you are speaking of the most powerful language the world has known, it is again most certainly not English.

oh, and Eric, You aren't the only one who can type legibly in a contained enviorenment of a box you call your home. If you are going to degrade yourself by putting others down, then why keep visiting, for the sole purpose of trying to harm our pride, then you, my reptilian-brained imbecile, are sadly mistaken. For as Plato's teaching have ridden high and mighty that ideas and ideals are more pronounced and respected than the physical world that we inhabit. And if you are so intelligent and actually possess the correct number of neurons to claim that you have a physical brain, then you would in fact poseess an imagination, for an imagination is what keeps people chained to realit and fantasy. And as the possession of physical attributes continues to increase, the imaginative attributes will increase tenfold in direct corrolation to the physical. For a truly intelligent race would live in direct harmony with nature, thus proving their wisdom. And seeing as humans have not reached that level, many choose to

retreat to the confines of the computer realm to find other similar to them, finding bondage, and thus expanding their imaginations to a grand point. with the prevalence of strife and terrorism, not to mention perr pressure, most would like to have an imagination to come up a pleasant scene for themselves to be happy with. apparently you have never had or will have an imagination, seeing as you had to put a historic explanation on something that doesn't need one, but just has to have a person ;lookign at a picture and admiring and critiqueing it. nobody wants to have a society run on history and pure science, so why try to destroy imagnation?
Silentiea
[Aug 19, 2005 at 07:44 PM]
Intelligence has little to do with imagination, at least not the way you say. What you need to have is sentience, self-awareness. In fact, as intelligence increases, imagination decreases. The more you know, the less there is to imagine, and so someone who knows everything would be incapable of imagining anything.
A T
[Aug 19, 2005 at 07:56 PM]
that was my point that I was trying to get across. I do not believe that what you have said is true, for Malchios an dI are good friend and both have tremendous intelligence and imagination. and physical harmony with a particular ecosystem shows true sentience, for as you can see, what with out need for plastics and electricity, the vast majority of ecosystems are falling apart!
Silentiea
[Aug 19, 2005 at 08:21 PM]
But they cannot imagine as much as a less intelligent being could. A small child, for example, can only imagine what it looks like within a tree, or what the words written before them could mean, whereas Malchios knows what each symbol says, and knows the tale that each ring on the heartwood tells.
Malchios
[Aug 19, 2005 at 08:23 PM]
indeed, but person mayhave imagination and intelligence in great amounts, not to prove you wrong, but to prove a point
Silentiea
[Aug 19, 2005 at 08:27 PM]
I know, what I am saying is not that an intelligent person cannot imagine much, only that imagination is inhibited slightly by intelligence. The only time imagination is stopped is when someone knows everything, which no one can.

I have a question for those of you here. If you despise Eric and his art so much, why do you continue to take time out of your day to come here and criticize them? Why not say what you have to say, then move on? You complain about his "lectures", but yet, you continually come here and talk about him, knowing he will have something to say back to you. State your comment, then move on.
Ersska
[Sep 08, 2005 at 05:51 PM]
As for my comment: To me, the quality of the art is not what's really important. It's what goes into the creation that makes it good art. The passion put into a piece of art really shines in the final product. I'm not saying Eric's dragon is the best, but I'm not saying it's the worst, either. Eric, you say it's the best you can do. I say you can do better if you try. Lighten up a bit. Let your imagination run wild. Don't worry about the history. Don't worry about logic. Just draw.

Arguing gets you into a wonderland of strategy and competition that no amount of muscle or magic can win. And when it is finally over, it gets you into a sense of victory greater than any size of fist can win you.

Ersska
[Sep 19, 2005 at 11:01 AM]
I hate to break it to you Silentiea, but no one ever really wins an argument. One person may give up or grow tired of it before the other but they never lose the argument. They may not state it verbally, but most people will still disagree with you. There's still a mental argument going on. So, unless your arguing totally changes a person's views and opinions to COMPLETELY agree with yours (which is highly unlikely), no one has lost or won the argument. Which means there is no victory and no point to it, except for the fact that you get to state your opinions.
Silentiea
[Sep 19, 2005 at 12:58 PM]
That's what makes it so much of a challenge. I have won arguments, it isn't easy, and as such it is even more enjoyable.
Talus
[Sep 20, 2005 at 12:01 PM]
Yes, but what if a simple arguement turns into a fight?
Silentiea
[Sep 20, 2005 at 02:16 PM]
Then I talk my way out of it. I don't usually say things that will start a fight, and when I do I usually immediately apologize. Also, I am not easily baited into a fight myself, at least not without a very good reason.
