The system I am using for this board (phpBB) is poorly adapted for such task compared with other system designed specifically to do that.

I explain, most blog log allow anyone to leave comments but those comments are only readable if the visitor click on a link below the blog entry. With phpBB comments would be displayed right below the post and it would quickly degenerate into an incoherent discussion:

Thread Jakes blog
Blog entry 1
- Comment about entry 1
- Comment about entry 1
Blog entry 2
- Comment about entry 1
- Comment about entry 2
- Comment about entry 2
- Comment about entry 1
Blog entry 3
- Comment about entry 2
- Comment about entry 3
- Comment about entry 1
Blog entry 4
- Comment about entry 2
- Comment about entry 4
- Comment about entry 3
- Comment about entry 1

You could of course make one thread per "blog entry" but it would not be easy to know what was in the last few entries, as they would be scattered across the forum and they would lack chronological order.

It's not a bad idea but having a link into your signature or profile to your blog (with many companies offer for free with no or very little advertisement) is more efficient, cleaner and you would be using a better system to handle the task (with highlight of days containing entries on a calendar, different templates for your page, etc).

There is also technical reason I also try to keep the board database size under control. It's not anything to worry, databases can be huge. It handling it from backups and doing restoration that prove to be more... difficult because of transfer time.
