Griffons and dragons have their special abilities, griffons are guardians, wise, and loyal. Dragons are a whole lot more. They are wise, strong, mighty, powerful, beautiful, rich, loyalty, courage, bravery venevolence, and the ability to ride the wind. Griffons don't have half that stuff as far as I know from mythology, but since its mythology, it isn't neccasarily true, and if it isn't true, it can be twisted around. not saying mythological things are fake, just showin' a point.

Griffins also have the power of desert and fire, or at least mine do. redwing and Dusty are very powerful, but they cna't take on a dragon. Espaecially not Comoni. Griffins are kind of the unknown in fantasy though, you don't see a whole lot of them. Good news, Tamora Pierce has mentioned unicorns and griffins in the Protecter of the Small series. Bad news, they were both depicted as bad creatures.
