no, thunder sounds like thunder. lightning itself has no sound. the thunder is the sound of air rushing into the space burned out by the lightning

Right, and so lightning causes and 'makes' the sound of thunder. At any rate, there is no reason for a zapping sound.

The high volatege exciteds the air molecules to where they compress, then as the lightning dissapates, it creates sound through decompression.

exactly, but i was trying to explain it in terms that everyone would understand. not everyone here is past eighth grade. and it's true about paper mache, newspaper and glue make it. and drawings, pencil or paint makes it, it's just that it is controlled by the person using them. i know that probably didn't make sense to you guys

It made perfect sense, and it got my point across. People still say they make paper mache, even though they are just making something else do it. The lightning makes the sound in that it makes the air make the sound.
