First, I'm sure everyone has noticed: they are unclothed. I can't believe I thought about it all day if I should post this or just leave it in my sketchbook. Maybe it has to do with the fact that someone suggested me to draw something and now looking back at it, it's probably the kind of stuff that I will receive some flak for... But the thing is, while clothes can make a drawing more interesting and certainly non-offensive to anyone, it also tends to hide structural flaws. So I wanted to draw something that get back to the basics and from a back perspective since I rarely draw my characters that way.
At any rate, those little gecko-like critters (they do have big eyes, it's not just the style and no they don't stick to glass) are supposed to live into a world of mine. Well everything I draw finds more or less a place in there so, these little lizards (currently unnamed) live in southern area of that world. The principal resources of that place is jungles, forests, swamps and [emphasis]mosquitoes[/emphasis]. So races without scaly skin (human, elves, dwarves, etc) or some sort of natural/magical protection (or a lifetime supply of DEET) don't really want/like to live there.
These creatures have their own language, customs and everything; they are generally of good company and rarely seek troubles but they are not really philosophers or intellectuals. They eat pretty much anything they can get their hands on but feed mostly on giant worms/bugs. They don't eat dead meat (eating such food in a warm climate is a sure way to get sick, but they don't really make the difference if the said meat was properly preserved). They usually don't wear clothes unless it's decorative and they are creatures a bit in-between warm-blooded (endotherm) and cold-blooded (ectotherm) with a body temperature ranging from 30 to 40'C (poikilotherm). Above that range they die, below that they fall into torpor and eventually die... after a while. So they tend to like the sun. Adults stand about 4 1/2 feet high with a 5 feet tail. There is little difference between the two sexes but for humans they all look female (for example despite its appearance, the small one in the middle could be either male or female).
Humans love them because they eat the giant bugs that devastate crops but hate them because they think that the said crops are an all-you-can-eat buffet (since they eat much less than the bugs and unlike the bugs, they don't destroy the crops/trees, it would be reasonable to say it's a small price to pay but no; people tend to be irrational and a world where everyone sings Kumbaya wouldn't be as fun).
Usually, their coloration varies from brownish-orange to green with black areas. Odd colors can pop up from time to time, like red or blue which can make them appear vaguely draconic despite being a lot less dangerous and lacking their too frequent "god complex".
I don't have a clear story for those three except maybe that they live in a clan-like village more to the north and are used to see humans and other human-like people. Shown as foraging fruits. I planned to put an angry farmer (they were supposed to steal fruits and ignoring the giant worms that are killing the tree on the right) in there trying to shoo them away but the drawing was getting a bit crowded. It would have been a way to highlight the fact that a creature doesn't always eat what they are supposed to. After all, a treat is a treat no matter where they find it. I will eventually find a proper story for them so for now their only task is to look cute (are they?).
Done with my usual 0.3mm pencil.

Very well done, the background and trees are brilliant, but the legs of the creatures look like they would be horribly imbalanced and very hard to move gracefully on. Other than that, this is a very cool creature design. *thinks for a moment* Shall name them Rectids! *nods decisively*

saw it on DA... i didn;t notice the little worms on the trees on DA another great advantage of dragnix... the piccys are bigger and more detail can be seen anyways i like your style tempest great job n.n
Hi Tempest! Nice picture, those are interesting creatures, I just agree with Rana about the strange legs (yes, I often agree with Rana's critisism ). And personnaly I have no problems about their nudity
so what if theyre naked. like you said its a good way to learn anatomy. i do it all the time with people. though im not posting them since they still suck, not so much for the nudity. but thas besides the point here. i like this a lot. and you have a DA account? whats your username so i can add you as a friend.

I have included it in the "File information" below the image (Artist's Website/Gallery). It's a shameless plug feature available for all but quite underused.
As for the legs, I don't know, I have tried to walk like them and it's a bit odd but not that bad. I will try to do a flash animation of them walking and see how it looks. Though this means I will have to learn flash but apparently it's quite easy so...
they are cute. the shape of the leg throws me off but I don't really see any anatomical problems. When drawing creatures like this, I'd imagine close references would be raptors: both the bird and the dinosaur. You could watch Jurassic Park or watch a pigeon as it walks. It would give a better idea as to how the legs should look and feel. Maybe if the thighs were shorter it would look better, but as I see them here, they seem like sprinting/leaping creatures that probably move through trees when spooked, so the legs would need to be long. You have to consider what purpose an animal would have for its structure. Its good as a line-art, I kinda wish it was detailed, but I do like it. The landscape is well done (god knows I wouldn't do better at my level yet XP) nudity doesn't bother me that much, artistically, and it does make sense when drawing more wilderness-type creatures, and I agree clothes are used to hide details *is guilty when drawing my werewolves* Overall its a good piece ^^
ANIMORPHS! LOL! xDD It's a series of books about these groups of kids who have the ability to change into different animals...something about fighting against Yeerks or something. (Yeerks by the way are mind-controlling slugs..)
Oh...alright then. Probably way to young for me then, lol. One thing that interests me though is that Hobbit was written as a childrens story. At the time it was written it appealed to the 8-12 year olds. Now it's about the size of an average adult book.
